Myofacial Release Therapy

Myofascial release is a gentle, non-invasive technique to relieve tension in the fascia to improve posture, relieve pain and increase performance.

Fascia is the body’s intricate web of connective tissue that penetrates and surrounds every muscle, organ, blood vessel and bone of the body.

We use myofascial release to:

  • support recovery from old injuries such as whiplash
  • treat stubborn neck and back pain
  • reduce freuency and severity of headaches and migraines
  • improve shoulder and pelvic mobility
  • correct posture
  • improve flexibility and movement
  • support athletic performance

It is also effective to assist and support people with chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia.

If you live with persistent neck and shoulder pain, and massage and other therapy doesn’t seem to work or last, then myofascial release is an alternative therapy that often results in rapid and lasting relief.

Fascia is fast to contract and slow to let go.  Sometimes it doesn’t let go either.  Some people say that fascia can grow filaments that then stick to the layers around it preventing muscles from moving properly.  It can cause weird pain, limit your movement and generally result in you feeling all over uncomfortable and restless.

One thing is sure though, working with fascia can give some pretty unusual and profound results.  But what does fascia work look like?  It can be very gentle, working with just a few hundred grams of pressure directly to the skin.  It can look like more vigorous stretching applied to the limbs.  It can also be very gentle and still holds to important junctions of the body.

For you, myofascial release can help improve mobility perhaps through the hips, shoulders and neck.  It can help pain from old injuries to move on, help in reducing headaches and regulating the pain cycle associated with chronic pain conditions like fibromyalgia.

Fascia work is deep, comfortable and often pretty relaxing.  Ask us about myofascial release at your next remedial massage appointment.
