David Clayton – Principal Remedial Therapist

David Clayton - Principal Remedial Therapist and Diretor of Myomasters MassageAs a child, I wanted to be an engineer or mechanic. I didn’t think that I’d fall in love with maintaining the human body!

I have a passion for supporting people to recover from stress, anxiety and depression, very old injuries, and working with jaw pain, neck pain and pelvic dysfunction.

My interest in massage began as a child as my parents often massaged each other and they also massaged us, their children. The power of human touch has been at the centre of who I am since birth.

I have worked in and around sport and wellness for much my career.  The first 16 years of my career were in the public service where I worked closely with regional communities throughout South Australia. Then in Local Government working with regional communities, disadvantaged youth and community sporting organisations. I have volunteered on the YMCA board of directors for 15 years which included two terms as president.

I hold a Diploma of Remedial Massage from the Natural Health Academy. Here I was introduced to myofascial release and craniosacral therapies which is the foundation of all my work. I also have a Certificate in Pregnancy Massage from Pregnancy Massage Australia and is a NAT Trigger Point Master. I also hold a Diploma of Phytology (Master Herbalist) which complements my interest in the nature.

My interest in massage was sparked during 20 years of practice in martial arts – I earned a 4th Dan Black Belt in Japanese Jujitsu. It was through this practice that I really started to appreciate the mechanics of the body and I started exploring acupressure, shiatsu and herbalism.  I believe that compassion is the strongest virtue of any warrior.

Later I trained as a sports trainer and I provided sports first aid services including massage for 10 years including at events such as the Australian Masters Games and University Games.

I believe that every person has the innate ability to selfheal from many common ailments and dysfunction, and that sometimes you need a helping hand through caring touch (tactile therapy), natural therapies and through medicines. I respect medical practice and believe that the role of natural therapies is in prevention, maintenance, and harmonising.
