Craniosacral Therapy
A gentle, quiet approach to hands-on care in Hope Valley
Not every massage treatment needs firm pressure or constant movement.
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle form of bodywork using light, sustained contact. The techniques are slow, quiet and low-pressure, and many people find them comfortable and relaxing.
At Myomasters, I use craniosacral techniques as part of remedial massage when a softer approach suits the person and the purpose of the appointment.
What does craniosacral therapy feel like?
Craniosacral techniques use very light contact held for longer periods. The work may be applied around the head, neck or other areas of the body, depending on what feels appropriate.
Unlike conventional massage, there may be little movement across the skin. Instead, the contact remains relatively still while you have time to settle.
The experience may feel:
- gentle and supportive
- quiet and unhurried
- less stimulating than conventional massage
- comfortable when firm pressure is not wanted
- easy to receive without bracing
Some people become deeply relaxed or sleepy. Others simply appreciate the opportunity to be still.
There is no particular sensation you are expected to experience.
Why I use craniosacral techniques
The value of these techniques is not that they force the body to change. Their value lies in the quality of the contact.
Low-pressure, predictable touch may help create the conditions for a client to feel safe, settle into the treatment and become less guarded. This can be particularly useful when more pressure would not be comfortable or helpful.
I may use craniosacral techniques to:
- begin a treatment gently
- slow the pace of a session
- provide a break from firmer or more active techniques
- work comfortably with sensitive areas
- support rest and relaxation
- help you transition out of the treatment before getting off the table
They are one option within a broader remedial massage treatment rather than something every client automatically needs.
Part of a remedial massage appointment
I incorporate craniosacral techniques into many treatments, often as short periods of quiet, sustained contact between other massage techniques.
Occasionally, most or all of an appointment may use this approach when someone wants a particularly gentle, low-pressure session.
You do not need to understand the different techniques or choose the treatment method yourself. Your appointment begins with a conversation about what has been happening, what you want from the session and how you prefer to be treated.
From there, I adapt the treatment according to your needs and response.
Realistic expectations
Craniosacral techniques may provide a pleasant and deeply relaxing experience, but individual responses vary.
At Myomasters, craniosacral therapy is not used to diagnose health problems or presented as a treatment for medical or neurological conditions. It does not replace appropriate medical assessment or care.
Its role is straightforward: gentle, sustained touch offered in a way that is comfortable, responsive and easy to receive.
Is this approach right for you?
Craniosacral techniques may suit you if:
- you prefer light rather than firm pressure
- your body feels sensitive or easily guarded
- you find constant massage movement overstimulating
- you want a quieter, more restful treatment
- you would like gentle work incorporated into remedial massage
If you are unsure, you do not need to decide before booking. We can discuss the options at the beginning of your appointment.
Frequently asked questions
Is craniosacral therapy painful?
No forceful pressure is used. The techniques are light, slow and intended to remain comfortable. You can ask for the contact or approach to change at any time.
Is it a type of head massage?
Not exactly. Some techniques involve contact around the head and neck, but they may also be used elsewhere on the body. The contact is usually still and sustained rather than rubbing or kneading.
Can I have an entire session of craniosacral therapy?
Yes. Although I commonly integrate these techniques into remedial massage, they can form some, most or all of an appointment when a very gentle session is preferred.
Do I need to book it separately?
No. Book a remedial massage appointment and let me know that you are interested in a gentle, low-pressure approach.
Does craniosacral therapy treat health conditions?
I do not use craniosacral therapy to diagnose or treat medical conditions. At Myomasters, its purpose is to provide gentle hands-on care that may support comfort, rest and relaxation.
