Run Easier and Happier with Sports Remedial Massage
Hi, I’m David — a running dad and remedial massage therapist in Hope Valley
Your story is probably like mine and the dozens of runners I care for. You’re a parent, you’ve given so much of yourself, and perhaps you’re not as active as you wanted to be. Running seems like the perfect answer — an affordable and low-cost activity that you can do for yourself, in your own time.
I get it. I’ve been there too. I know the joy of running, but I also know the frustration of sore legs, tight calves, and the little niggles that show up just when you’re starting to feel good.
That’s why I specialise in sports massage for runners. I love helping people recover faster, avoid injury, and get back to doing the thing they love most: running. Running is supposed to feel fun — not like a battle against your own body.
Why Choose Massage Therapy?
Whether you’re training for a marathon, chasing a parkrun PB, or just trying to keep running consistently, massage can make a big difference.
- Recover after a long run or sprint session – flush tired muscles and reduce soreness.
- Address injuries before they escalate – deal with niggles before they sideline you.
- Switch your body into recovery mode – calm your nervous system so your muscles repair faster.
- Support your whole body – you’d be surprised just how much your lower back and shoulders work when you run!
- It’s kinder than foam rolling, and cheaper than psychotherapy!
My Expertise
I believe that moving your body is supposed to be fun, movement is living! As someone who runs, I seek help from time to time, and I while I might be biased, I feel that strategically timed massage keeps my runners running further and happier towards their running journey. Plus, it’s just a nice thing you can do for yourself.
At Myomasters, I bring a wealth of experience and specialised skills to each session including:
- Deep Tissue and Sports Massage: Perfect for addressing specific muscle groups that are prone to tension and tightness.
- Cupping Therapies and Fascia Release: Ideal for improving blood flow and releasing deep-seated muscle tension.
- Trigger Point and Myofascial Release: specific therapies to target over loaded, congested and injured muscles.
- Stretch Therapies: to stretch in very specific ways that you cannot do by yourself
- Dry Needling: A technique to target and relieve trigger points, improving muscle function and flexibility.

Massage Timing for Events
Planning your running calendar? Massage works best when it’s timed to fit your training program.
- In the lead up to your event: A monthly massage helps keep things in check. As your training intensifies, fortnightly or even weekly sessions can keep your body moving well.
- If something does crop up along the way — a setback in your training — I’ll work with you to get you back on track or support you to the finish line.
- Pre-event massage: Your last massage should be no closer than 4 days before your race. Keep it light and restorative — a gentle flush to have you feeling fresh.
- Post-event massage: Between 3–7 days after your event, a recovery massage helps flush out fatigue, ease soreness, and get you back on track quicker.
What's In Sports Massage
No two runners are the same, so no two sports massages are the same. Together we’ll find the right mix for your body and your training load.
Sports massage can include:
- Flowing massage to promote circulation and recovery
- Deep tissue massage to target stubborn niggles
- Therapeutic stretching
- Dry needling, scraping and cupping
My own go-to routine (as a runner) looks like this:
- Deep tissue and trigger point massage through my back and shoulders
- Cupping through my quads and ITB
- Myofascial release for hamstrings
- Gentle work through calves and feet
But the most important part? I tailor the treatment to what suits you best.
